Crohn's and Colitis UK sponsored litter pick

Hi everyone,

My name is Dominik Swiniarski, and I’m a 17-year-old student in my final year of A-Levels. Until about six months ago, my life was going great—I had good grades, great friends, and excellent health. But that all changed when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis.

It started with frequent bleeding during trips to the bathroom, which quickly worsened to dozens of times a day. After several tests and long delays in getting specialist care, my family and I sought help in Poland, where I was officially diagnosed. Unfortunately, few in the U.K have that option. Even then, the treatments I’ve tried so far have had little success, often leaving me with more side effects than relief.

What shocked me most throughout this journey is how little Crohn’s disease and Colitis are talked about. These are chronic conditions that affect thousands, yet public awareness is low. Both diseases can lead to hospitalization, urgent surgery, and even life-altering changes if not treated properly.

Through my own research, I found that Crohn’s & Colitis UK is one of the best organizations working to provide support, research, and awareness for those affected. But they need our help to continue their work.

To support this cause, I’ve decided to organize a sponsored litter-picking event in my local community to raise funds and spread awareness about these life-changing conditions. My goal is to raise £2,000, which will go directly to Crohn’s & Colitis UK, helping others who face the same struggles I do.

Me and friends will do a planned route, picking litter, each Sunday through the month of November in Bracknell to hopefully help our local community whilst raising money for the subject.
