Crowned with Care: Free Hair Day for Kids in Care
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Emiola, and I’m the founder of DOOPS Academy, an initiative dedicated to teaching parents and carers about Afro hair care.
This February, we’re hosting a special community event called Crowned with Care at the Afro Caribbean Centre in Leicester. The event is designed to provide free hairstyling and barbering services to Black children and teenagers (ages 5–18) in the care system.
Why This Matters
Many children in care, especially those with Afro-textured hair, struggle to access proper grooming and cultural hair care. This can impact their confidence, cultural identity, and overall wellbeing. Crowned with Care will bring together skilled hairstylists, barbers, and volunteers to create a day of love, care, and community. Each child will also leave with a personalized hair care box, worth £50, to support their needs beyond the event.
How You Can Help
To make this day possible, we need to raise £10,000 to cover the costs of:
- Paying 20 hairstylists and barbers for their time and expertise.
- Providing personalised hair care boxes for each child.
- Venue rental and decorations to create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Refreshments and essential supplies for volunteers.
- Public liability insurance and DBS checks to ensure a safe environment.
Every donation, big or small, will directly contribute to helping these children feel valued and celebrated.
Join Us in Making a Difference
Let’s show these children that they are seen, cared for, and celebrated. Thank you for your kindness and generosity in supporting Crowned with Care.
