Cruz had a complicated journey into the world because of undiagnosed IUGR(interuterine growth restriction) during my pregnancy which deprived him of the essential blood flow and oxygen his growing brain required, as a result Cruz has Spastic diplegic cerebral palsy.
The CP affects both Cruz's legs, and mildly affects his arms and hands as well as his left eye. Cruz is now 28 months and although he has many therapies, we want to give him the best shot at walking and living a normal life!
We are in the application process for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy(sdr). This surgery has been shown to be life changing for children with Cruz's type of cerebral palsy. The surgery is performed by Dr. Park at St. Louis childrens hospital in Missouri and is not covered by OHIP.
Cruz's main hurdle at present is the spasticity in his lower extremedies. "SDR is the only surgical procedure that can provide permanent reduction of spasticity in CP."
Cruz can not sit up by himself, nor walk, SDR results in improvements in sitting, standing, walking, and balance control in walking.
Cruz needs your help! This amazing little boy deserves every opportunity available to him. As his mom, I can't let the burden of cost stand in the way of getting the therapy he deserves. Please help in any way you can. We appreciate your donations so, so much!!
