Crystal and her Battle with Fungal Meningitis

Friends & Family,

As many of you know our family is going through a terrible ordeal at this time with Crystal. Let me give you guys a quick summary. Crystal had a procedure done in Matamoros, Mexico back in February of this year. ​Soon after she started getting terrible headaches and was primarily diagnosed with migraine headaches not getting any better she continued going to hospital and was finally admitted mid April with a diagnosis of fungal meningitis and has been in the ICU since then. As many have probably seen in the news, the anesthesia that was used was deemed to be infected others say the surgery equipment might have not been sterilized. This outbreak has taken the lives of 8 women already and there is still many in ICU being treated.

“Fungal Meningitis is an inflammation that affects the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord and is caused by a fungal infection that spreads through the bloodstream to these areas. Symptons can take weeks to appear or be mild at first, and they include fever, stiff neck, nausea and vomiting. But once sypmtoms do appear, they can quickly become severe or life-threatening.”

Crystal is the mother of 3 beautiful babies, Baby Johnny- 3yrs & Adalee – 8 months which means she has been away from her mommy for almost half of her little life, and her step son Landon.

The whole family is helping in the caring of these precious babies but with Crystal not working and daddy, Johnny Tapia, having to miss so much work the bills are piling up. Most nights Johnny stays with Crystal, leaves the hospital at about 4 am to come see his babies before they go to daycare, then goes to work but due to this roller coaster of a disease, he has been missing a lot. He then spends some time with the babies then heads back to be by Crystal’s side.

This strain of meningitis is new so the doctors are doing their best to fight it and beat it. There are good days and bad but the doctors have said that her road to a full recovery is still a long way to go and she will require extensive therapy.

3 very close friends to Johnny & Crystal have unfortunately passed. We pray every single day that Crystal beats this. Her husband, her babies and the whole family needs her back home.
