Tom Key and Crystal Champ

My name is Ryan Holets and I work as a police officer for the City of Albuquerque. On September 23rd, 2017, my life changed forever. That day, I found a homeless couple shooting up heroin behind a gas station. Their names are Tom and Crystal. Crystal was eight months pregnant. The power of addiction had placed her in terrible circumstances. Incredibly, despite all of her suffering, her concern for her child shone through. She shared with me that she was desperate to find someone to adopt her unborn child. She wanted to give her baby a home, a family, and the best possible chance in life. This love for her child affected me deeply and I offered to adopt her baby. Three weeks later, a precious baby girl "Hope" was born. Prior to and following the birth of Hope, Crystal did not want to enter recovery from her addiction. Getting free from her dependence on drugs seemed to her like an insurmountable task. She accepted her life and did not believe that she could change. On December 1st, CNN aired their story and it gained national attention. After a tremendous outpouring of support from across the nation, a rehabilitation center stepped forward to offer full scholarships to their facility. Their decision to enter recovery was not easy and it was clear that the decision would have to come from within them. I am now elated to share that both Tom and Crystal decided to do so and have begun the long road to freedom from addiction. They are committing themselves heart and soul to this process and I am very proud of them both. I am starting this go fund me page in order to raise the funds needed to help Tom and Crystal. While they have a full scholarship for the live-in rehabilitation center they are currently at; we need to provide them with housing after they graduate the program within the next couple of months so that they can continue to receive necessary and vital treatment. Additionally, Tom and Crystal, are facing many medical challenges from the heavy toll that living on the streets for years have brought. All of the funds raised will be used to support Tom and Crystal as they put together a life free from addiction to drugs. I am directly in control of all funds raised and personally ensuring that they are used for the previously mentioned purposes. The kindness and love that has been received thus far has been amazing. I know that together, we can change their lives. There truly is hope.
