Caroline's CSG Tuition

Donation protected
My name is Caroline, and I am a rising high school sophomore. My love and fascination for the ocean and its creatures has been a major part of me for as long as I can remember.  Recently, I was accepted into the Coastal Studies for Girls semester program. My parents are excited to provide me with this experience, and have graciously agreed to pay for a majority of the funds needed; however, they have have asked that I show my commitment by raising a portion of the tuition. Now that I am in, I am facing the task of raising money towards the $22k tuition so that I can attend this Fall.

In the past few years, I have learned about how the ocean sustains all life on the planet and I’ve become more aware of the human impacts that affect the ocean’s health.  I have come to realize that I can either be part of the solution, or part of the problem: and I definitely want to be part of the marine conservation movement.

Last summer, I earned my P.A.D.I Advanced Junior Diver certification which I used in volunteering for the Coral Restoration Foundation and cleaning up marine debris in the waters of Bonaire. This year, I joined a marine conservation club at my school and attended the Youth Ocean Conservation Summit run by the National Marine Educators Association.  Next, I want to turn my efforts to issues facing my “home ocean” (The Gulf of Maine), but first I need to know what those issues are and what I can do to help.

What is CSG?

Coastal Studies for Girls is a program based out of Freeport, ME, which "immersed in science and leadership education, inspires girls and women to create joyful lives, vibrant communities, and a more connected world." CSG is the only semester school in the country for girls which focuses on marine science and leadership education. With women making up only 27.9% of environmental scientists in the US workforce, CSG's focus of encouraging girls to pursue careers in the sciences is extremely valuable. Another main aspect of the program is empowering its students to become the next generation of leaders and changemakers by giving them the skills needed to identify an issue and collaborate with others to find solutions.

Why CSG?

Attending Coastal Studies for Girls would not only help me to develop my knowledge and skills in marine science, it would also assist me in becoming an active member of my community. I believe that having a hands-on, in-the-field education at CSG will give me the tools I need to be the change I wish to see in the world.

My Goal

My goal is to raise $5,000, which will go towards my semester at Coastal Studies for Girls, which begins on August 23rd.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for your consideration of my campaign. All donations, no matter the size, will help me to become the person who I strive to be.
