In the last year, 43% of Pueblo County middle and high school students reported feeling sad and hopeless and admitted to withdrawing from regular activities for at least two weeks at a time. 11.7% of those students attempted suicide at least once during the last 12 months. As these numbers continue to increase at an alarming rate, it is essential to show our support for our community members struggling with their mental health.
You can help bring awareness to this growing issue while getting to know the leaders in the Pueblo area who are working to make childhood and adolescent mental health a priority by joining the CSU-Pueblo nursing program for the "Be Kind To Your Mind" mental health walk on June 18th, 2022. The event will start at 8:00 am and the walk will begin at 9:00. All proceeds will be donated to Fire Fit Kids.
Fire Fit Kids is a Pueblo based community program designed to encourage children to stay physically active and mentally well. The program was established in 2016 and offers a wide variety of activities ranging from outdoor obstacles courses and workouts to community cookouts. Fire Fit Kids is committed to providing a safe space for youth to learn and play while fostering important values like leadership, respect, and teamwork.
