Madi's Fight

Meet Madi! Madi is a fun, outgoing, smart, and loving 13 year old from West Haven, CT.  In December of 2020, Madi was admitted to the emergency room after collapsing at home. She was there for several days where doctors ran numerous tests and underwent transfusions. Madi was beginning to feel better, but there were no definitive answers from the doctors at that time. The doctors had decided to do bone marrow testing because the tests results were very concerning, but they still didn't have an answer. After many tests, Madi and her mother, Nikki, were able to return home, still with no answers, but with some very concerning possibilities. By Friday, 1/15/21, after many more tests and doctors visits, they had received the diagnosis for Madi. She has been diagnosed with Myelodysplasia, which is a rare type of cancer in which the healthy bone marrow does not make enough healthy blood cells, as well as having abnormal cells in the blood and/or bone marrow. Madi is now starting months of treatments including chemotherapy as well as needing a bone marrow transplant. Right now, Madi and her family are overwhelmed with the mental and physical stress of this horrifying news.  To continue to care for Madi, it is likely that Madis mother, Nikki, will have to take unpaid leave from her job once her vacation and sick days are used up. We are looking to raise funds to help cover excessive cost of getting the best treatments possible for Madi.
