Help Save the Cuckmere Haven Landscape!
The Coastguard Cottages and Cable Hut at Cuckmere Haven are an iconic landmark, symbolic of Great Britain and loved the world over, but they are now at risk.
People are often surprised to learn that the majority of the sea defences that protect these 200 year old buildings, were built by the residents of the cottages, and have stood firm for over 75 years. They are now at risk of being undermined by a section of defences originally built and maintained by the Environment Agency, which has been abandoned as part of their Shoreline Management Plan for the area.
The situation is dire, and the work is urgently required. The application for planning permission took a gruelling 6 years of consultations and studies, but thanks to the support of the Planning Committee at the South Downs National Park, we now have the go ahead to make our vision a reality.
Now we need you more than ever. There is no government or public agency funding available for projects like ours, so we are appealing to everyone who loves this place to help us build our future. Please make a donation if you can, and help spread the word by sharing this fundraiser.
For more information on the cottages, their history, and our project, please visit our website and follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
