Cuddles for Carter and Finn

To everyone who knows Ineke and Jeremy, they’ll know what beautiful people they are and how excited they were to be pregnant with two beautiful boy,  but this was just the beginning of a very long and difficult journey. 

Carter and Finley's journey was a bumpy ride from the beginning. With multiple complications during pregnancy Carter weighing  a mere 588g and Finley weighing just 468g were born at 25.1 weeks and then faced a long and difficult journey ahead of them.

At just 5 days of age Carter got a severe infection, NEC, which in babies this small can unfortunately be fatal, which caused him to be transferred to the RCH for emergency surgery.

Being identical twins on the next day, Finely was also transferred to the RCH for the same emergency surgery but unfortunately this time the battle was too much for little Finn and he passed away during surgery.

A week after Carter's first surgery he had the same infection return and required another surgery and he has had a total of 25cm worth of bowel removed. This has led to further issues but somehow this little fighter just kept fighting. 

Being nicknamed “the fighter, after a few bumps along the road, Carter was finally starting to seem like the worst was behind him, until another infection at 10 weeks old (35 weeks gestation)  has overtaken his tiny little body and he’s back to square one with more medications and more nurses and doctors helping this little boy fight. 

Carter is now fighting harder than he’s ever had to before and no one is sure of how long this fight and journey will be. 

No one is sure of the long term effects of these infections on Carter, and the possible impact on this family is still completely unknown.
