Weight Off My Chest
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Aaron Evans and I'm currently a junior at Ithaca College working to get my B.F.A in Writing for Film & TV with Emerging Media. I just want to be able to get my full college experience, but I keep hitting a road block.
I'm transgender, FTM. And I am in desperate need of top surgery.
I've known I was transgender for as long as I can remember. I have memories from as early as four years old of things like refusing to wear a dress, or only sleeping in my brother's room because his was blue and had "boy's things."
I finally got the courage to come out of the closet my freshman year in high school. By 15 I had convinced my parents to let me chop my long hair and on February 14th, 2018, I took my first shot of testosterone. On hormones with chest binding, I've been fully transitioned as male since early 2018. But there's still one problem, my chest.
Me and my chest are mortal enemies. From as early as being twelve, I'd look up information about top surgery because I just knew that these things weren't supposed to be there. I've been known to get panic and anxiety attacks just by looking down when not wearing a binder, or just by simply walking down the stairs. I've been diagnosed with severe body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria. Both my primary physician and my therapist agree that the moment top surgery would occur, my mental health would improve dramatically.
It's affecting my health in college. I can't go out at night because I can't have my binder on. With long classes and long days with also having a part time job as well, sometimes I'm forced to wear my binder for 14+ hours, leaving my chest bruised.
With my loss of insurance over the past year, I have no possible way of paying for surgery on my own. Any money left over would go to medications or handling dogs ears. After that, any left would be donated to The Trevor Project.
Surgery would be scheduled for as soon as it’s possible.
Please donate if you can. Anything and everything is appreciated, even just sharing the link to this page to people you know. Top surgery is something I've dreamed about for as long as I could remember. I need this change to happen in my life.
I appreciate any support you can throw my way. Thanks for reading this far.
