Cuidemos juntos la juventud que lucha por Colombia

Con el paro nacional en Colombia en contra de las medidas represivas del gobierno de Iván Duque, una representativa cantidad de familiares, amigos, amigas y población colombiana residente en el exterior no tenemos la posibilidad de unirnos a las protestas en nuestro país. Pero como parte de este grupo, ¡no abandonaremos a nuestros jóvenes en la defensa de la democracia y en la exigencia de una Colombia más justa y equitativa!

As the national strike continues in Colombia at this present moment - a series of demonstrations against the repressive measures of President Ivan Duque’s regime -, many family members, friends, and relatives of Colombians living abroad don’t have the chance to join the protests back home. But as part of this group, we will not abandon our fellow Colombian youth in defending our democracy and the demand for a more just, equal, and fair Colombia! 
La juventud, los/las activistas de derechos humanos y civiles, así como los/las líderes sociales que participan en estas manifestaciones han experimentado un enfoque represivo por parte de las autoridades policiales colombianas, desde palizas, violaciones, desapariciones e incluso, tristemente, asesinatos. Por esta razón, Sandra, Estefanny y otras personas están recogiendo alimentos y material de primeros auxilios para ayudar a los manifestantes y hacerles saber que no están solos, sino que cuentan con el apoyo de muchos de sus compatriotas.  

Young people, civil and human rights activists as well as social leaders who are participating in these demonstrations have experienced an iron fist heavy-handed approach by Colombian law enforcement authorities, from beatings, rapes, being disappeared and even sadly being killed! For this reason, Sandra, Estefanny, and others are collecting food and first aid supplies to assist the protestors and to let them know that they are not alone, but have support from fellow Colombians abroad. A la fecha, y gracias a la valentía y la resistencia de quienes están en las calles, el gobierno:

-anunció educación gratuita para los sectores más vulnerables,

-retiró la reforma tributaria y la reforma a la salud que iban en detrimento del bienestar general.

-aceptó la renuncia tanto del Ministro de Hacienda, Alberto Carrasquilla como de la canciller Claudia Blum.

To date, and thanks to the courage and resistance of those on the streets, the government has: 

-announced free education for the most vulnerable sectors; 

-withdrawn the tax reform and the health reform that were detrimental to the general welfare of most ordinary Colombian citizens; 

-accepted the resignation of both the Finance Minister Alberto Carrasquilla and Foreign Affairs Minister Claudia Blum. Estos han sido logros importantes, que demuestra la necesidad de manifestarnos para lograr un mejor futuro en Colombia. Entre otras cosas, se le exige al gobierno el cumplimiento de los acuerdo de paz, y de los acuerdos pactados gracias a las protestas del 2019-2020 así como el respeto por la vida de los líderes sociales.

These have been important achievements, which signals the need to further demonstrate for a better future in Colombia. Among other things, we are adding our voices to the protests in demanding that; the government complies with the peace agreement and with the agreements made thanks to the protests of 2019-2020, as well as, respect and protect the lives of all protestors, civil and human rights activists and all protest leaders.La juventud seguirán protestando en las calles y para cuidar de ellos/as hemos decidido unir fuerzas y  hacer esta campaña con la que se busca:

- Hacer donaciones de alimentos para la olla comunitaria (papa, cebolla, lentejas, arroz, verduras, yuca, etc...), café y panela.

- Hacer donaciones para el botiquín de primeros auxilios: gasas, microporo, agua oxigenada, isodine, oximetros, termómetros, guantes de carnaza, hilos de sutura, diclofenaco, ibuprofeno, naproxeno,  sales hidratantes, etc.

- Donar linternas, batas, filtros, máscaras anti gases. 

The youth will continue to protest in the streets and in order to contribute to this critical democratic right of peaceful demonstrations, we have decided to join forces and conduct this campaign. This will involve:

- Donate food to the community pot (potatoes, onions, lentils, rice, vegetables, cassava, etc...), coffee, and panela.

- Make donations to the first aid kit: gauze, micropore, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, oximeters, thermometers, leather gloves, suture threads, diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen, hydrating salts, etc.

- Donate torches, gowns, filters, and gas masks. Si te animas a apoyarnos es probable que muchos más chicos/as puedan recibir atención cuando estén heridos/as y algo de comer después de largas jornadas de resistencia. Tu ayuda hará la diferencia y juntos podremos hacer que se respeten nuestros derechos democráticos, sociales, civiles y humanos. 

If you support our campaign, it is likely that many more young people will be able to receive the care they need when they are injured and something to eat after a long day of demonstrations.
