Cumberwell Park Golf Club Captains Charity 2024

This is the GoFundMe page for those wishing to donate to the Cumberwell Park Golf Club Captains' Charity 2024.

The Captains are proud to have selected BCUSG as their charity for 2024. This is a cause that is close to our hearts and is wholly focussed on a significant NHS service in our own community.

Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG) is a local charity, registered since 1985, that operates solely with the help of volunteers. Their mission is to raise funds to purchase equipment and provide facilities and services to cancer patients at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, which is not funded by the NHS.

BCUSG is run entirely by volunteers, meaning NO paid staff, so approximately 95% of all monies raised go into equipment and resources.

Robin, Gail and Steve have had the pleasure of visiting the brand-new Dyson Cancer Centre at the Royal United Hospitals site in Bath. We heard from one of the founding members of the Charity that the very existence of a cancer treatment centre in Bath is, in no small part, down to the vision and tenacity of the BCUSG. We also heard from the clinicians and hospital management who explained the huge difference the donations from BCUSG make to the unit. Not only do patients benefit, but this also helps attract the cream of NHS doctors and staff due to the advanced equipment and support provided by the support group fundraising.

In the last year, the support group has funded outreach nurses to support the paediatric cancer treatment of children at home or school, in an effort to keep life as normal as possible. Amongst other specific funding, they’ve funded cooling hats to minimise hair loss after treatment, and funded AI software licences to assist radiographers in pinpointing areas for treatment. Most significantly the BCUSG provided over £500,000 for scanning equipment that significantly reduces collateral damage to tissues surrounding tumours. To date, BCUSG has raised a staggering £6m which puts the original foundation target of £10,000 into perspective!

We are proud to be associated with the BCUSG and enormously inspired by the work it does. We hope you feel the same and we thank you for your donation.
