CUPE Local 3550 represents over 3,000 dedicated educational support staff employed by the Edmonton Public School Board. These workers have not received a cost-of-living wage increase in over a decade, despite rising living expenses.

Support staff play a critical role in ensuring schools function smoothly, yet their annual average salary of just $34,500 leaves many struggling to make ends meet. Some are forced to take on two or even three jobs just to survive.

Twelve years ago, this was considered a livable wage, cost of living has gone up by 30% yet our wages haven’t. Workers are now stretched to their limits, unable to support themselves or their families. They love their jobs, their students, and their schools, but the financial strain has become unbearable.

As a result, these workers have been left with no choice but to strike. They are fighting for fair wages, better education funding, and improved classroom support.
