To cure my cat Gadge, in the ICU, who was healthy 5 days ago
Donation protected
This was setup on advice of several people, to help cover past and future medicals costs for my cat, Gadge.
Gadge is a very cute cat who has always loved traveling around since he was a kitten, he flew into planes abroad, trains, trams, metros, cars, followed me everywhere. He's smart and very loving, always touched people who crossed him, a curious cat.
He has a lot of character, and always has been a good boy.
He was followed on a regular basis by several vets, and was in perfect health just 5 days ago 25/10). He did a routine check, including blood work that was all good.
Just 2 days later he was suddenly unresponsive, collapsed. An emergency house visit from a Vet concluded that he's in critical state, hypothermia, he has seizures and low blood sugar.
He's taken right away to a clinic ICU in Brussels where they try to stabilize him with no luck, despite heating blankets, warm lamps, IV, he doesn't stabilize overnight. X-rays and ultrasounds are done but root cause can't be found so far.
He's in hypothermia 33-35°c body temperature and has bradycardia.
I decide to discharge him as it's not his usual clinic, and they hadn't progressed so far.
Via cab we transfer him to his usual vet in Dworp, she pushes antibiotics, puts back an IV bag, calls both clinics where they chip into the potential diagnosis and next steps over the phone. She then suggest to immediately transfer him to the most specialized hospital in Belgium for pets, UGent, as she doesn't have the necessary equipment for his critical state.
He's then transferred to the ICU in UGent by cab, Belgium. His Vet wasn't sure he would survive the transfer but he did, he's a fighter.
Here's picture of that transfer:
After a few days they could finally stabilize him, he has now a feeding tube on top of his IV. But is no longer in hypothermia or bradycardia. Which is some progress. Still on the neurological side unresponsive, and twitching.
They believe he has pyelonephritis and has a neurological issue. The source of both still hasn't been identified, and further tests are being done, he's still kept in the ICU to this day.
He then got a blood transfusion yesterday (31/10), as he was anemic and his kidney values kept declining.
See updates for further news.
There are already a couple of thousand euros in fees at this time. And everyday in the ICU is a minimum 160€, excluding any tests.
Thank you for anyone who would chip in to give him a 10th life, he deserves every bit of it and to live happily ever to 25 years old!
