Currents: Worldwide Sailing Circus Tour for Climate Action
Donation protected
Acting for Climate celebrates 10 years by launching the ambitious Currents project!
Over the next three years, our 7 circus artists are touring around the globe by sail, using art to inspire environmental action. In each location, we play site-specific, collaborative performances on the theme of connection and the climate crisis. Through workshops, we collaborate with local artists and environmentalists worldwide to better understand their local challenges in fighting climate change. In 2024, Currents toured the Mediterranean. Now we are crossing the Atlantic, continuing our journey for creative climate action in the Caribbean.
Do you want to give us wind in our sails? Join the crowdfunding to be part of this journey, sending ripples of climate hope across the seas!
For the last decade, Acting for Climate has been at the forefront of developing new methods that combine art and environmental activism to achieve more creative and impactful climate action. We performed in the forests, parks and harbours of Europe, reaching tens of thousands of people each year. In 2024, we are taking our work global with our largest and bravest project yet.
Born from an urge to connect across borders, Currents shares experience and hope with over 60 partners from six continents, and a mission to move beyond sustainability. Together, we ask: How can we, as artists, and as humans, give back more to nature than what we take?
Currents revolves around symbiosis in both its theme and its methods. Our team collaborates with local artists and environmentalist experts and scientists in each location, to readapt the piece site-specifically, responding to local challenges. Like the sea, Currents is in constant change, enriched by the journey and the stories and regenerative practices we gather. Together, we explore how we can create connections between different cultures, humans and the more-than-human world.
Our project is ambitious and multilayered. By supporting Currents, you are part of making these things possible:
• Site-specific, high level circus performances around the world, inspiring environmental action and hope.
• Exchanges and connections between artists and environmental experts, to share knowledge and practices.
• A global collection of regenerative solutions, re-sharing with the world the knowledge & methods we gathered.
• A YouTube series to document and share our journey, and the stories of the people we meet.
The climate crisis is a shared challenge, demanding global-local collaborations. Through art, workshops, and exchange, Currents has the potential to build bridges among creatives, climate experts, and communities worldwide; the power to imagine and co-create a regenerative now.
As a local audience member from Mallorca shared: "A very empowering experience. Everyone facing how overwhelming the climate crisis can be should see your show and feel the hope and togetherness it brings."
Many of the communities we find the most important to work with lack the financial means to support such a project but they have a wealth of knowledge to share with the world! In regions where both the cultural sector and climate action are chronically under-funded, your donation will help us reach these communities and include them in our growing global movement for creative climate action.
Your donation will go directly to the actual costs of the project; the costs related to the sail ships such as repairs and harbour fees, food expenses, insurances and safety equipment. The project is already happening, thanks to a strong, resilient group of humans putting their energy and care into it. Abigael, Félix, Gina, Mar, Sarah, Mariano and Emma onboard the ships; Máté, Karoline, Isabella, Federica and Jon Julius from land; and a lot of amazing people and volunteers on shorter term.
However, we need your help to keep the project afloat, and let it grow to its fullest potential.
