Curt Kutzley Funeral Expenses
Donation protected
Curtis J. Kutzley passed away unexpectedly in his home in Cape Carteret, North Carolina on December 26, 2019 at age of 66 due to complications from diabetes. We are in shock and are consumed with sadness. We, Curt's immediate family, are asking for you to please consider donating to this fund to help us cover his funeral expenses in lieu of sending flowers or other gifts. For more information about Curt please continue reading below.
Our hearts ache. Curt was a beloved father, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and OSU Buckeye fanatic. He had so much more life to live, so much to live for and the void of his presence is felt by many.
Over the past few years Curt's battle with diabetes elevated beyond taking insulin and testing his blood sugar. In 2017 he almost lost his foot due to an injury which resulted in Curt needing multiple surgeries, pins and a foot halo. He recovered and realized his health needed to be a top priority. With this in mind Curt decided to move from Columbus, Ohio his home for all his life, to Cape Carteret, North Carolina where his daughter, Crystal and grandson, Nic live. The move was good for Curt's soul and he loved that he got to be a part of Nic and Crystal's daily life.
Unfortunately, the infection that Curt had in 2017 present itself again in November of 2019. This culminated in a surgery to remove his right foot in early December. Curt began the hard work to heal and learn how to live with his new reality. He had just been fitted for a prosthetic and was excited about the prospect of being able to walk around again in two weeks. He was optimistic about what the next chapter of his life would hold.
On Christmas day, Curt talked with Crystal and said he was feeling under the weather and going to bed early. After not responding to texts and calls the next morning, the squad arrived to find him unresponsive.
No one expected this news. We all are stunned, mad at him for not letting someone know how badly he felt, mad at ourselves for not being there to help him, overwhelmed by the grief that he is gone from our lives. Our hearts are heavy.
The awful reality in these situations is that as adults you cannot just grieve the loss of your loved one. Within hours of their passing you must deal with funeral homes, burial or cremation plans, death certificates and untangling the web of bank accounts, bills and their other obligations to prioritize who needs what and when, in order to let the world know this person that was just here is not here any longer.
Though we are just starting the process of untangling Curt's personal items, we already know that Curt does not have any financial assets. The surgeries and associated medical interventions used up Curt's savings. Curt died leaving no assets or funds to cover his expenses. We are asking that you, Curt's family, friends or colleagues please consider donating the money you would spend on food, flowers or other sympathy gifts to this fund to help us pool the money required to cover the costs for a simple cremation for our beloved Curt.
Thank you for loving him and supporting us through this very difficult time. There will be life celebrations for Curt in North Carolina, Ohio and Michigan with more information to come on those events as we have them planned.
Much love the Kutzley family
