Curt Newsom's Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
Curt Newsom has always been known for his big smile, his contagious laughter and his love for friends and family. On September 15th, after spending the day watching his daughter Kassie play soccer for UCM, the unthinkable happened -- His wife found him on the floor of their home unable to move.  He was immediately rushed to the St. Luke’s East ER, and then transported to St Luke’s Plaza where they learned he had suffered a massive stroke to his middle cerebral artery and would need immediate surgery.

So often, we hear of these gut-wrenching stories, but we never think they are going to happen to us, to our family or our friends. No one wakes up prepared to walk through the after-effects of a stroke, but that is exactly where the Newsom family has found themselves. The last month and a half has been full of intense medical care, therapy, tears, and more prayers than any of us can truly know. There have been many great successes, many small victories, and many setbacks, but one thing has remained evident… Curt and his family are deeply loved by so many. Curt has recently been moved to a state of the art rehab center at St. Luke’s South, Overland Park, KS. He is back to his William Jewell football days, with “two-a-day” practices. He has intensive therapy throughout the day, as he continues to work to gain function back that was lost during the stroke. Curt’s personality is constantly shining through, from smiles to thumbs up, and the determination to improve, he is still the man that so many have come to love.

However, there are some immediate challenges that he faces. He is currently working hard to regain function of the right side of his body, including his arm and leg.  One of their most pressing prayer requests and desires is for his speech to improve. While he can understand what is being spoken to him, it is a challenge for him to communicate in return. If you know Curt, you know his gift for telling stories and his good sense of humor. The world is a better place when Curt can talk.

While we are encouraged greatly by the progress Curt has already made, there is still a long way to go on the road to recovery. Emergency rooms, surgery, ICU, procedures, medications, month-long hospital stays, and rehab can be incredibly expensive when it comes to health care costs. We would love to help provide some financial relief for Newsom's as they walk through this difficult season. Our goal is that their main focus can be on healing, and not on the financial stress that can come from medical bills. Please help shower the Newsoms with love through the form of monetary donations.  Any amount given will be so greatly appreciated. Continue to keep Curt, Stephanie, Kylie, Garrett, and Kassie in your prayers as they walk faithfully down the road ahead of them. They have remained unwavering in their faith in God in the midst of this great trial. They know their one hope on this journey is in Christ alone and his strength.

Please join us in praying Joshua 1:9 over them as they pass through the fire. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord, your God is with you wherever you go.”
