Curves for Curve Lake First Nation - Climate Ride 2024

Ainin/Bozo/Hello dear friends, family, and the Nogojiwanong community!
Glen Caradus and Nicholas Ormond will embark on yet another exciting Climate Ride this year on September 7th, 2024. With a little over a month before they take off to ride 324 KM in one-go, they have set a fundraising target of $5000, which will go to the Curve Lake First Nation Cultural Center.
The funds will be directed toward projects that focus on preserving the Mississauga culture, language, and traditional skills. Funds will support educational courses teaching youth and community members about trapping, basket-making, beading, medicine harvesting, and birch bark harvesting. A portion of the funds will also go towards learning about and training in traditional ceremonies. The unique language of Anishinabemowin has depth and beauty to it and is integral to the health of indigenous communities.
Caring for our home, the earth, and the climate fits into the core values and teachings of Curve Lake First Nation. "Study after study has shown that Indigenous communities are the most successful guardians of the natural environment, with about 80% of remaining global biodiversity found on the lands of Indigenous Peoples" (Amnesty International). This is part of the reason why it's important to us as educators and climate activists to support those who know how to properly care for these ecosystems while moving forward and growing our relationships to others, the land, and our community in a good way.
Chi Miigwetch and Big Thanks to all those that have chosen to support this project,
Nicholas Ormond and Glen Caradus
