Serious medical issue

My name is Mary Masters Overmoe and my son Andrew "Andy" could use your help.

At 16 years old, after exhausting all medical treatments for Ulcerative Colitis, he underwent surgery to have his colon removed. He had to have an ostomy bag for 8 weeks before they did another surgery to give him a j pouch that eliminated the ostomy bag. Recently at his 5-year checkup, he was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and started on oral meds to bring the inflammation under control. Unfortunately it wasn’t working and this week he went to the ER in severe pain for the 3rd time. They admitted him and did a CT with contrast, finding a mass in his rectum. They started him on oral antibiotics, steroids, and pain medications and took him to surgery. 3 local GI specialists all recommend he have his rectum removed and live with an ostomy bag for the rest of his life.

At 25 years old, Andy is not ready to make this drastic step. He wants to explore other options to maintain a life without an ostomy bag, so he is being referred to UCSF for follow-up. This is going to require several trips which will put a large financial strain on him and his wife Kali. Andy made a change in his career last week, therefore he has no sick time or vacation yet for his missed days from work for these appointments. Thank you in advance on behalf of our entire family
