The money raised will be used to raise awareness in our community for sustainable development and allow us as citizens to have adequate representation to protect the rights of all community members. Specifically, we need money to purchase yard signs and flyers, rent a meeting place, website hosting, hire experts and procure legal representation.
As Benjamin Franklin said, “In this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes.” However, an argument could be made that, in Kane and McHenry counties in the 21st century, development is also inevitable. While we embrace and welcome change, we also encourage area residents, landowners, public employees and elected public officials to view all potential development through a lens that considers sustainability. Sustainable development is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
It is incumbent upon us all to work together to protect the residents and taxpayers of Hampshire, Illinois, and its surrounding communities as new development occurs. Simply put, no development should put potential economic gain before the safety, health, and protection of our community and our natural resources.
Any unused funds will be donated to the Hampshire Park District Foundation and the Huntley Food Pantry.
