Josie’s Journey

Josie Lee was born prematurely to Jamie and James at 31 weeks after being diagnosed with Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida (this is the most severe type of Spina Bifida where the spinal tissue and nerves are exposed), hydrocephalus, and Arnold Chiari Malformation II.
After multiple tests, consultations, discussions, and lots and lots of prayers, it was determined that Josie was a candidate for fetal surgery to attempt to repair the lesion on her spinal cord, the hydrocephalus and the Chiari II Malformation. The risk to both Josie and Jamie was a concern, but this was the best chance for Josie to avoid serious infections due to the spinal cord's exposure to amniotic fluid.
The surgery was successful, and Jamie and Josie were recovering at home when Jamie's doctors discovered a tear on her placenta during a follow-up appointment. Jamie was ordered to check into the UNC Women's Hospital for the remainder of her pregnancy.
Josie arrived at just 31 weeks via an emergency c-section after Jamie's placenta ruptured causing Josie's heart rate to drop dramatically. This was a frightening experience for Jamie, but both Jamie and Josie came through and proved how strong and tough they both are.
Josie was required to stay in the NICU for several weeks as her condition was closely monitored. She has endured tests, tests, and more tests, and remains on oxygen 24x7 to help treat a variety of conditions.
Josie was scheduled for surgery to treat the hydrocephalus later in September, but complications required emergency surgery to be performed on Tuesday, September 3. The procedure was successful and Josie is back home and recovery is going well.
As you can imagine the medical costs for the fetal surgery, NICU stay, and brain surgery are and will be tremendous. These costs, coupled an uncertain timeframe of when Jamie will be able to return to work due to Josie's needs, are becoming overwhelming.
Please join us supporting Jamie and James and help them with their medical bills and day-to-day expenses while Jamie cares for Josie full-time. If you are unable to support them financially, prayers for sweet Josie, Jamie, James, and big sisters Ashlyn and Ambrey, are always welcome. ❤️
