Beautiful Sadie, a beloved border collie and lab rescue, was the victim of a toxin, which is a poison that is often fatal. In the afternoon, Sadie was running around, enjoying an autumn day in her home sanctuary. By nightfall she was losing consciousness, could not walk and her legs buckling. She was rushed to a top-flight emergency clinic where she was placed on a gurney and triaged, placed in ICU and received extensive emergency veterinary care that saved her life. Fluids, blood panels and lipid infusions were administered with round the clock care. Although the exact toxin has still not been determined, it is clear that it was not one of the following, snake bite, fungi or pesticide/rodent control. The exact causative agent is still under investigation. Fortunately Sadie has made an incremental recovery and released to home care. She can walk again. She’s wagging her tail and making eye contact. It is miraculous considering the severity of her symptoms and the likelihood that she would not recover from such a dire toxin.
For those of you who know and love, Sadie, the sweet girl, who greets you with a kiss and laying on your feet, loves music and kids, and is fond of cats, saves homing pigeons and chases blue herons, will steal your sandwich in a heartbeat and thinks trout and squirrels are fair game (never caught either) You know that there was no hesitation to give her the best care possible and worth every penny.
Veterinary bills were $2300 not including follow ups. We were completely blindsided by this expense, and while we are beyond grateful to still have her with us, any help possible to offset these costs would be so appreciated. We are only asking for half of the medical expense, anything that exceeds the full cost of veterinary care will be used for raising awareness to prevent other dogs from suffering in the future . Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and thank you for your prayers, they work
