Hello! There is a small group of us putting this page together for a retired Suffolk Fire Captain's daughter.
On December 19th, 2019, Erika was dropped off at her house by the school bus and while walking to the front door a stray dog came out of no where and attacked her. The stray dog was a rabies positive pit bull. During this attack, Erika lost her index finger on her dominant hand. She has been undergoing treatment for this injury along with the rabies series for post exposure (not covered by insurance). Erika's dad has also had to go through the series due to the fact he handled her finger after the attack.
After the attack, Erika did not feel safe in her own yard. Her dad allowed her to pick out a fence that would make her feel safe so that she will only have a very short distance to get from the school bus to the gate before she was within her "safety zone". This is an expense that the family was not prepared to have.
This money would allow for Erika's continued care, physically and mentally. Erika is going to need physical and occupational therapy along with counseling to overcome the new challenges she will be facing by this disability.
