Help Pam with her Last Wish
In June 2020 my mother Pam became ill, she was hospitalized for a week with no real answers other than pancytopenia, a condition where you have low white and red blood cells and platelets. This continued to get worse as she neded platelet transfusions and eventually blood transfusions. She had a bone marrow biopsy the end of July and finally a diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) a condition that can occur when the blood-forming cells in the bone marrow become abnormal. This leads to low numbers of one or more types of blood cells and is considered a type of cancer. Her bone marrow biopsy showed 10% Leukemia cells also, which MDS can turn into a very aggressive form of Leukemia. Her symptoms since June have been extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, bruising and immune-compromised. She kept working from home as much as she could, thanks to her awesome bosses, at her pace. However she can no longer work. She started her first round of Chemotherapy last week, which landed her in the hospital twice and two ambulance rides to get there, due to continued depleted cells and shortness of breath that is due to low hemoglobin, which unfortunately is a side effect of the chemotherapy. She also continued to need transfusions, which becomes more dangerous the more she has to have. With that her husband has had to take time off work to care for her and she really can’t be alone due to the side effects of the chemo. She is waiting for her insurance to approve the bone marrow transplant and once that happens her team at Karmanos will move quickly to get her a donor and schedule the procedure. However she is still awaiting Aflac to process her short term disability claim and due to COVID her husband is awaiting his unemployment, and bills are piling up. They have been paying the medical bills since June to not get behind but money has run out. She needs help and to remain stress free in order to fight this. She’s a 52 year old grandmother of all girls and mother of 3. We still need her around. Please pray this goes smoothly and that she is able to go back to living her life and enjoy her new grand baby.
