WHAT HAPPENED:
On Thursday 12/12/24, Cybele had to undergo an emergency surgery. She had been experiencing severe pain for days but was pushing through because she couldn't miss work. It got to the point of the pain being too unbearable and her experiencing chills, fever and whole body pain.
Once these symptoms kicked in she called me immediately for help to get her to the hospital. I left work, picked her up, and got her packed up and on her way to the ER. Once she saw the doctor and did some tests, she was informed that the situation had worsened and that she would need surgery.
Cybele's work is very physical and unfortunately all of that physical strain made her physical state so much worse, and causing the emergency situation to turn into an emergency surgery situation.
Cybele had the surgery done that night and had to spend another day recovering in the hospital after surgery. Since her work is a very physical, all in person job, this will impact her ability to make an income for 8-10 weeks.
ABOUT CYBELE:
Cybele is a passionate and very versatile local San Diego artist who's passion is teaching and creating dynamic learning experiences. She currently works as an SIS (school within a school) dance teacher in Title 1 elementary, middle and high schools (schools that are receiving federal funds in communities that are at or below the poverty line) including after school arts and dance programs through Non-Profit arts organizations.
She also has her own cultural arts organization through which she organizes youth camps free of charge to the participants during times of the year when school is not in session. On top of all of this she fosters an empowering space for adults through her Latin Cardio Dance classes all around San Diego that have become super popular. And of course she is also a professional performer in various dance shows and events.
Cybele also has 3 beautiful children who she has now been raising and providing for alone, an emotional support dog and has even taken on a foster puppy. Her family focus has been to passionately work towards providing a space of more stability, safety and healing for her children to propel them in positive and successful life directions.
This woman is the definition of hard working, open hearted and a community gem.
THE EMERGENCY IMPACT:
Because of this emergency surgery Cybele will not be able to work for the next 8-10 weeks. Besides not being able to work, she will also not be able to do her usual "mom duties" of meal prep, cleaning, errands, driving etc...
She is the sole income earner for her family. She provides the money for rent, groceries, utilities, toiletries, other bills, school supplies and pet supplies. With the holidays in full swing Cybele was also going to start another part time job this weekend to help bring in more money for holiday gifts and gatherings etc.
Cybele also had holiday and NYE performance and dance camps events lined up that she will have to cancel.
THE ASK:
We are reaching out to you on GoFundMe to help get her and her family through the next few months. We are hoping to raise $20,000 so that Cybele and her children can focus on her healing and not the stress of making ends meet. Please help however you can and help us spread the word.
Thank you and Happy Holidays!
