Three Peaks Challenge for migraine research
Hello! My name is Chiara Calastri and I am raising money for Migraine research by undertaking a big challenge! Chronic migraine makes physical activity (and a bunch of other things!) quite challenging, but I will try to climb one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks with two brave fellow migraine sufferers, while a team of healthier and very supporting friends will take on the other two as well!
We'll do this on Saturday May 14 2022 and the dream team is made up of my migraine friends Fiona and Claudia, my partner Romain and my friends David, Paulo, Edward, Melissa, Jeff, Fangqing and Thomas.
The Three Peaks route is a 24 miles (38.6km) circular walk in the Yorkshire Dales which includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent.
This is a very challenging task which requires training, endurance and determination.
Please support our efforts by donating to The Migraine Trust, to give hope to those living with the disease.
MEET THE TEAM!
About Migraine
Migraine is the third most common disease in the world, affecting 1 in 7 people - so chances are you know someone with it. Migraine is much more than a headache. It is listed by the World Health Organisation in the top 10 disabling diseases and includes pain, visual disturbances, nausea and vertigo. Chronic migraine, which affects 2% of the world population, involves having 15 days or more a month where a person has a headache, and a migraine on at least eight of those days. It is the 7th most disabling disease among all diseases.
Why don’t we hear about it so much then? Partly, there is a stigma associated with it, as people tend to think of it as a synonym of “headache”. Partly, there is very limited research on it and no cure, despite the substantial loss in quality of life for sufferers.
