Cycle For Kibera Hope & Shine School
Donation protected
Overview
Raising money for the Hope & Shine School in Kibera, Kenya, which provides free education and meals to 45 children in the area. To justify your donation, I am cycling from London to Singapore. I am currently in Kazakhstan.
Who are we raising money for?
Kibera is the largest urban slum in Africa. Within Kibera is a non-profit organization, ‘The Hope and Shine School’.
Due to the high costs of both public and private school fees and access to materials, many children cannot afford to go to school in Kibera. The Hope and Shine school fills the gaps by providing education to families at no cost. There are no school fees for the parents.
The school has 45 students aged between 2-9 years old. Each day students are guaranteed breakfast and lunch, a uniform, stationery, and, most importantly, a full day of school (a basic human right). If you are interested in learning more, check out their Facebook page.
Why is funding needed?
The Hope & Shine School is funded by the proceeds of Kibera tours (a local tourism agency) and donations. Since Covid, tourism levels have been low in Kenya and the tours are no longer a reliable source of funding.
What are we going to do with the funds?
Each month a portion of the total funds raised will be shared with the school to cover their meals and education expenses.
