Cycle for Helen

I just want to provide a quick update on our fundraising, we have finally got around to closing down this page, and we are delighted to let you know the final amount of money raised is €101,750.

This will be split among the three charities as set out below:

• Metavivor: €50,875

• Breakthrough Cancer Research: €25,438

• St. Francis Hospice: €25,438

We could never have hoped to raise this amount when we started organising the event back in December and truly appreciate all the donations we received from you all. I would also like to thank those who helped out with expenses for the week.

I want to run through a few quick thank you’s to those who supported us during the cycle:

• Thank you to both Helen’s family and my own who travelled the length of the country to support us throughout the week.

• Thank you to Eugene, Donal, James, Maire, Kieran and Randal who drove the support vehicles all week and for putting up with us.

• Thank you to the Clonlara Development Team, Truagh Camogie Club and everyone who helped organise the amazing homecoming we received when we arrived into Clonlara. I know the group of cyclists were blown away by the reception we received and personally, it will live long in my memory.

• Thanks to the Gardaí (Aoife, David and Breffni) in Sligo and Mick in Limerick, who escorted us through traffic.

• Thanks to the Stack family for providing the whole group with much needed tea, cakes and ice-creams in Castleisland.

• Thanks to William’s mother, Annie, and Tadhg’s family for helping out with refreshments on our arrival into Mizen and to everyone who came out to cheer us home.

• Thanks to John Gleeson, Fingal Ferguson and 51 Cornmarket Restaurant in Cork, who generously donated prizes for us to raffle.

• Thank you to all the cyclists who joined us throughout the week – you kept us going towards the end!

• To those I have not mentioned, your support was really appreciated and hopefully, in time, I will get around to thanking you all in person.

Finally, I want to thank all the cyclists who completed the full week – Killian, Tadhg, Senan, Clem, Shane, Niall, Kathryn, Patrick, Brian, William, Matthew and Christy. We shared a lot of laughs (and a few tears) along the way, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group to share the week with!
