Cycle with Dignity - End Period Poverty

The Cycle with Dignity project is a direct response to the needs of thousands of girls and women in Njoro, Kenya for who suffer stigma, humiliation and despair every month when they don’t have access to menstrual products due to poverty.

Cycle with Dignity will provide a long-term, sustainable solution that not only addresses this need, but educates girls and boys about menstrual health and hygiene, creates jobs and is beneficial to the environment.

The Cycle with Dignity project will provide an eco-friendly, long-term solution to period poverty in Njoro over the course of 2 years, by providing 3000 packs of reusable sanitary pads to girls in local schools, girls and women with disabilities and or living in poverty.

Each girl or women will receive a pack of six cloth sanitary pads and bag. If properly cared for, each pad should last several years. The project will also provide education to girls and boys about menstrual health and hygiene and create jobs for three local women that allows them to work from home whilst caring for their children who have disabilities and are denied access to education.

Education alongside practical action is essential if we are going to change attitudes, reduce period stigma and normalise menstruation for the generations to come. A member of staff will be employed one day a week to take responsibility for the project.
