Cycle for liver health
Donation protected
We are a group of liver specialists at the liver transplant unit at St James's hospital in Leeds. We are cycling from St James's to the International Liver Congress in Amsterdam to raise awareness of liver disease, the positive effect of exercise for liver health and to raise funds for research and support of patients with liver disease.
Liver disease is increasingly common in the UK and the number of people dying from liver disease has surged over the past decade. The commonest forms of liver disease in the UK are associated with obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure or alcohol and can be reversed with lifestyle changes. Most liver disease will not cause significant symptoms until it is very advanced, by which time treatment options are very limited. We want to raise awareness of liver disease, and the lifestyle measures that can improve liver health as well as improving peoples overall wellbeing.
