Cycling Without Age Decorah Affiliate

Cycling Without Age Decorah Affiliate is starting its first campaign!

Cycling Without Age Decorah Affiliate is a volunteer organization to promote and assist Decorah long-term care facilities to obtain, maintain and use equipment to offer free bike rides to local nursing home residents and other people unable to ride independently. This group of biking enthusiasts believes that the Decorah community has the people and infrastructure to succeed in this endeavor.

To begin, we are fundraising on behalf of Barthell OES Home (Eastern Star) and Arlin Falck Assisted Living.  Your donation will allow these facilities to purchase the “Chat” trishaw (see link below), a Featherlite trailer for the Chat’s transportation and storage, and safety and maintenance equipment (helmets, tools, a cell-phone, etc.)

Last fall, adaptive bikes were demonstrated for Eastern Star and AFAL residents and staff, and they were a tremendous success!  All Ability Cycles from Jefferson, Iowa, visited Decorah with a selection of vehicles (including the Chat) that showed us you're never too old to enjoy a bike.  Please visit their Facebook page tolearn more about All Ability Cycles (and view their cover photo which features their trip to Decorah!). 

Cycling Without Age Decorah Affiliate has met with Decorah City Officials including the City Council, the Police Department, Parks and Recreation Department, and the Trails of Winneshiek 28-E Committee.  All entities agree that the Chat trishaw is appropriate for trail and street use.
