Cyclone Freddy emergency relief
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Matt Hawkins and I work for the Global Compassion Coalition. This fundraiser is being created on behalf of Omex Juma who is a Compassion Connector from Malawi and Director of Fruit Malawi. He is fundraising to help the victims of Cyclone Freddy which struck earlier in 2023.
From Omex:
Roughly 80,000 livelihoods were devastated by the impact of Cyclone Freddy in March 2023 and we are still living with the aftermath.
Houses, roads, and communities were destroyed. Before Freddy hit us we were already experiencing a deadly cholera outbreak and the arrival of the cyclone only exacerbated our problems. There are fears over the safety of our drinking water and it is taking an age to repair homes and restore energy.
We need your help. This rebuild will take time - but it will be worth it. To restore hope and life to the people here would be an incredible gift.
Who we want to help
Our work here as Connectors aims to help communities in four districts - Thyolo, Mulanje, Chiradzulu, and Philomel. This amounts to around 3 million people.
How we will help
Our aim is simple: to get everyone a bag of maize flour. With this people can make the staples of their diets and do so in a way that will feed many people. With food in their stomachs they will have the strength to heal from this tragedy.
