Cyclone Freddy Relief Aid - Malawi

Tax deductible
An unprecedented cyclone has hit southern Africa since February, now making landfall again in Malawi and causing devastation to tens of thousands. The cyclone has intensified a record seven times and has the highest-ever recorded accumulated cyclone energy. To put it into perspective, Cyclone Freddy recorded more energy over its lifetime than an entire typical U.S. hurricane season. Over a hundred people have been reported killed, with many others unaccounted for and thousands displaced with little access to food, shelter or clean water.

Banja Umodzi has teamed up with Road to Relief and Caring Women's Forum to provide aid in the southern part of the country. These women-led NGOs are putting together "Relief Packs" that cost USD $26.50 each and contain the following items:

  • 10kg of Ufa (cornmeal)
  • 500 grams of salt
  • 5 packets of Soya pieces
  • 1 bar of soap
  • 100 grams of tea
  • 1kg of sugar
  • 2kg of rice
  • Plastic sheeting
  • Bucket
  • Water guard
  • Blanket

100% of donations go to those affected. All other costs (labor, transport, administrative, etc.) are covered by Banja Umodzi.

Our teams have already begun making deliveries. We thank you for any contribution you might be able to make toward this effort!
