Cyclone Freddy victims in Pomene, Mozambique
Donation protected
Hi friends,
My name is Maureen and I am fundraising for the victims of Cyclone Freddy in Pomene, Mozambique. The village is right on the coast, 2 hours from the nearest town on a good day via only a sandy road. Approximately 400 people live in Pomene and they have immediate and urgent needs. I am working with my friends Ian and Steph, who live there and run a nearby beach camp, to get money for supplies. Getting in and out is a struggle, and with one flatbed truck it will take a while to make enough trips to haul everything in.
There is currently no water for the village. The water pumps they have been using (which are communal water points) have all been submerged. People cannot catch fish for food because the sea is still too rough and most have lost the subsistence plots they would normally rely on for day-to-day food. There are reports of people trying to catch and eat small birds on the beach. Right now people jeed food and water. Then they need new roofs, at a minimum, maybe even new homes.
Pomene urgently needs water and basic food items, and diesel fuel to get to the nearest town and back to buy these things. This is the quickest way I could think of to potentially get some much-needed support there. If you have a few minutes and a few bucks...you know the drill.
