On the evening of Sunday, November 19, 2023, the sweetest girl you could ever meet, miss Cynthia Louise Anderson, surrounded by her closest family, was taken off life support after fighting Invasive Group A Strep which lead to rapid necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating disease) and took her final breath here on earth, at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

Cyndi has been in and out of hospital her entire life. Fighting so many battles, she was born with hydrocephalus. She even survived a palliative care status with meningitis in her brain back in 2007-08. We believe the endless love from her mom Dorothy and late dad Dale Sr, saved her many times. All of her at home care was provided by the loving hands and hearts of her parents and her two siblings; Dale Jr. and Nicole.

On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, her mom Dorothy and her sister Nicole took her to the Adult Day Surgery unit at Winnipeg HSC for dental surgery under general anesthesia. A referral that had dated back to just before covid.

Dental surgery went well that day, she had 3 teeth extractions, including a wisdom tooth and a nice cleaning, and Cyndi was released from hospital. Mom and sister decided to take Cyndi to the Best Western on Regent to rest for the night before heading home to Kenora. Cyndi returned home to Kenora the next day, a bit of swelling on her lower jaw, what you would normally expect from a wisdom tooth removal.

On Friday, November 17, mom called sister because her swelling had increased a bit more. Maybe it’s still normal swelling after a wisdom tooth removal. We did everything we could to keep her comfortable after her surgery.

Saturday, November 18, at 3am, 911 was called because Cyndi was struggling to breathe and the swelling had become more and more. She was taken to Lake of the Woods District Hospital via ambulance, where her decline was evident. A decision for a ventilator and transfer to Winnipeg HSC was made. Sister flew with Cyndi via Ornge helicopter, while mom and brother drove to meet them.

Cyndi was in Winnipeg Emergency for 2 hours, before we were told and it was determined she needed surgery for an attempt to remove rapid flesh eating disease around her neck and throat. She was in surgery all that day. Later in the evening we were told they were not able to remove it all, and will try again.

Sunday, November 19, we were told the flesh eating disease has spread and they would not be able to remove any more. Our hearts completely shattered, we were encouraged to contact close family for Cyndi’s last day here with us.

That evening at 9:45pm with brother and sister holding her hands, Cyndi took her last breath.

This GoFundme will go directly to my mom, and is to help our family with any related and remaining funeral costs. It is also for her, as she needs all the love and support, as she navigates this awful, difficult time.
Our family also deeply grieves for our dad, her late husband, Dale Anderson Sr., who passed suddenly in August 2019.
