In Loving Memory of Cyrill Joseph Garang: Supporting His Family in a Time of Need

Dear friends, family, and community members,

My name is Jessica Garang and it is with heavy hearts that we come together to remember and celebrate the life of my father Cyrill Joseph Garang, a remarkable father, son, brother and leader who touched the lives of many with his warmth, passion, laughter, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.

He was a dedicated father and is universally loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. On Wednesday, January 24, a sudden cardiac arrest led to his admission to the hospital, and after 3 days, he peacefully transitioned on Friday, January 26, 2024, with his family surrounding him.

My father’s unexpected departure has left a void that cannot be filled. As we cherish the memories of his love for teaching, his fiery spirit, his numerous contributions to the community, his accomplishments and his love for his family, we also recognize the financial strain that comes with unexpected memorial and funeral costs.

His impact extended beyond his family, reaching into the community he served with dedication and life-long friendships he made along the way. To honour my father’s legacy and alleviate some of the financial burden on the family, we have created this GoFundMe. The funds raised will go directly towards covering all his funeral expenses, and providing ongoing support to our family as we navigate this difficult period of mourning. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Let us come together as a community to show our love and support for my dad during this heartbreaking time. Facts about Baba: loved to play sports, especially soccer, and he loved to learn about different cultures through cooking, which he did for anyone who entered his home. He was passionate about politics and the enhancement of communities, especially the Sudanese community.
