Love Trumps Hate
Donation protected
On April 29th, my brother-in-law was the victim of a targeted hate crime. A man walked into his work on a Monday morning in Anchorage, AK and stabbed him, then pursued him.
When I saw Morad in ICU shortly after heart surgery, he was crying asking why anyone would ever want to kill him. He was concerned that his girls would miss the sign up for soccer. He was asking about the two co-workers who bravely stepped in to help him. And he was so worried that he would miss a shift catering (after his day job) to pay the bills. This latter absolutely broke my heart. He and my sister should not have to worry about losing their home and everything they’ve worked for because he was stabbed due to his faith and ethnicity. It will be some time before he can return to work.
My brother-in-law of 22 years, Morad, is one of the most exceptional people I have ever known. He’s kind beyond measure, he’s generous, he’s thoughtful, he’s extremely hard-working, he’s honest, he seeks peace always, he’s an immigrant and a citizen, and he also happens to be Muslim. Morad adores his beautiful young girls and would literally go to the end of the earth for them. He has stood by my family through thick and thin over two decades, and never once has he wavered in his love and devotion towards all of us. Morad is the kind of husband, father, and brother that most aspire to be and, without him, our family would be incomplete.
We as a family are not used to asking for help like this, and I know that Hannah (my sister) and Morad would never do it in their own, but times like these HAVE to be an exception. PLEASE, I beg you, donate to help them keep up with the financial stresses that are now more of an issue than ever ❤️. Morad desperately needs time to focus on healing, physically, emotionally, and psychologically, surrounded by his family and those that love him. Money should be the very least of his concerns.
Rhetoric matters. Words matter. You think they don’t, but they do. I want to believe that I live in a community that will rally behind someone who was targeted and victimized because of his ethnicity and the God he chooses to worship. Please help me show this beautiful family that the community has their back, that we won’t tolerate this hatred on our watch, and that we care deeply about them. Love trumps hate, that I have to believe.
Thank you for your time, our family sincerely appreciates your consideration, your well-wishes, your shares, and your donations .
