Donations for Ramie Thies

Hi, my name is DaleRae Frederick, and I’m creating this GoFundMe to help my family as we try to navigate through one of the hardest times that we have had to face.

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, my husband woke up with a migraine and he was confused. On Wednesday, he was still suffering with a migraine, so he stayed home from work and slept most of the day. When we woke up on Thursday morning, the right side of his body was numb and whenever he would talk, he wasn’t really making sense. That’s when we went to Lafayette General to have him checked out. They did a CT scan and discovered bleeding on his brain, which is when they explained to us that he has what is called arteriovenous malformation, or AVM for short. Ramie was then airlifted to Ochsner in New Orleans because he needed to be under the care of a neurospecialist.

When we arrived in New Orleans, the doctors did an MRI and his diagnosis of having AVM was confirmed. AVM’s are usually present at birth, and are considered rare— less than 200,000 cases in the US per year— and occur as a result from the development of irregular connections between arteries and veins, but experts don't understand why this happens. But, basically, my husband was born with a silent condition that he’s lived with his entire life without knowing it existed until the morning of May 4th, when it ruptured and caused him to have a stroke. Ramie’s bleed is located on the left side of his brain, where speech and understanding is stored.

The last couple of days the doctors have been monitoring him and focusing on keeping his pressure low so that no more vessels rupture while they decide the best course of action in treating the bleed. They will be doing an angiogram sometime this week to help them figure out the best way to treat the bleed. There’s a few different ways that they can go about fixing it, but all of them are dangerous and carry risks, and a since the bleed is in such a delicate spot, they want to let the inflammation go down some more before deciding on the best course of treatment. So, he will be admitted here for at least another week and will have at least 6 months of recovering to endure afterward.

I’m making this page to help with the expenses that will inevitably accumulate while we go through this journey. Ramie and I have two daughters that he loves with everything, and being away from them has been one of the hardest parts of this whole experience for him. He will be out of work for 6 months at the absolute minimum and I have been unable to return to work since having our baby, Baylee, so any little bit that is donated is GREATLY appreciated!

We are hoping that Ramie will be able to get approved for Medicaid to cover the medical expenses side of this, but everything else that is needed to survive— diapers, formula, rent, bills— is what these donations will be going towards.

We truly appreciate every little bit, and thank everyone that has been helping us throughout the most difficult time of our lives— thank you for the prayers, please keep them coming as we move forward on this uphill journey of recovery.
