Project Hope

I have a vision, a dream, a desire, a great Hope: a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen and see a project come to fruition. There’s a new project that I would like to get off the ground this summer during our SABURA Summer Program called Project Hope. Project Hope is to work with a number of teens, teenagers and young adults during our SABURA Summer Program on leadership and life skills. It’s ambitious, but it is a plan, a dream that I have; a strong desire to see come alive. I’m not one to ask for help, but my main obstacle right now is financial and that is why I’m looking for support from the community in helping me to realize this HOPE. I want to give several youths opportunities and Hope (grounds for believing that something good may happen) for a better tomorrow. Any donation amount will be welcome.
My goal is to raise at least $5,000 but my hope would be $10,000 and I hope you can help me achieve this. This Project will be in memory of my brother Larry Monteiro who was a victim of a senseless act of violence 18 years ago. My brother was 21 years old and left behind two beautiful children at the time, a 3 year old and a 3 month old. He was hoping for a better future for his children. Our last conversation together was exactly a week before he was taken away from us and was based on bringing about change. He passed away on my father’s 50th birthday, August 10, 2001 (Hence one of many reasons why the number 10 has a significant meaning to me and a hope of $10,000). Ever since that day, I’ve battled quietly behind the scenes to bring about change. Today we have so many young children, teenagers, and young adults in search of a better tomorrow. Our youth are facing a much tougher road then many of us did, relentless bullying, violence, addiction, strong vices, racism, and much tougher obstacles. I’m hoping Project Hope can be another stepping stone for SABURA’s mission of engaging, educating and empowering our youth for a brighter tomorrow.
