Service trip to Malawi

I need help getting to Malawi. Help me with your donation!
Kelly (that's me!) and Phoebe the Malawian Social Worker I met last summer
I have been invited to participate in a project to help women in Malawi in June 2018 continue their soap business. This project fits perfectly with my research interests for my Ph.D. studies. It is an amazing opportunity for me to both do good and further my studies.
I need $3500.00 to get to Malawi.
Why this trip? Last summer I met a group of people from Africa doing social and economic development. The invitation came from this group of people for me to help students and faculty on a project to empower families in Malawi. With this invitation, a door was opened for me to pursue an opportunity that is a dream of mine. I want to take this trip to share my knowledge about development, work on research toward my PhD, but also work with the local Malawian villagers to learn about how they live, survive, and grow.
In addition, I will be able to teach UAlbany and SUNY Binghamton students about development, business, and the effects of poverty. Students will not only be learning on this trip but will work with villagers on the soap making business and other needs the villagers say are important. This is a true service learning trip for the SUNY students. For many of these students, this will be their first trip overseas and for all, it will be their first trip to Africa. For all of us, it is our first trip to one of the poorest countries in the world. I am humbled to use my knowledge to teach students.
My biggest expense is airfare which is about $2000.00 right now. My other expenses include lodging (about $1100 for three weeks) and travel expenses to villages outside the city ($200). Other expenses include travel health insurance as well as the precautionary vaccines and medications I will need to have on hand ($200). Initially, this invitation included funding by one of the Universities that is no longer available. Our family was not prepared to fund such a trip, therefore this is why I ask for your help!

Any amount you can donate--$5, $10, $20, $50 or higher will get me closer to fulfilling this goal to serve in Malawi! Please help me make this exciting opportunity come true!
Of note is that any funds that exceed my amount will be donated to a local NGO there called Malawi Children's Mission (MCM) http://www.malawichildrensmission.org/
that I work with. They do important work with the community.
