Kayla's Medical Fund

It's been a crazy, chaotic week for Mike and Kayla. We asked Mike to get a summary of what's happened because it has been so much and he was there first hand. We ask that you all keep Mike, Kayla and the kids in your prayers. We set up this GoFundMe account to try to help them out with their expenses as this is going to be a journey for them.  Please see Michael's summary below.

On January 1, 2017 Kayla woke up with a minor headache that soon made its way into a migraine. The migraine got so bad that her vision started to become blurry and eventually went away completely. Kayla was admitted in to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. While in the emergency room, Kayla lost consciousness and went into a seizure in which she broke out two of her lower front teeth. After the seizure the doctor was able to get a bite plate and breathing tubes down her throat in case she had another episode. The Dr. wanted to see what was going on with her brain so they took her to the CAT scan machine to see if there was a blood vessel that had broken in her brain causing the pressure and loss of sight. While in the CAT scan machine she had another 5-6 minute seizure. Kayla was than admitted into the Intensive Care Unit and was sedated so her body could relax and hopefully would not seizure again. Once in the ICU the Doctors watched her closely. Kayla was sedated for 24 hours when they decided that they needed to wake her up. Once the sedation wore off they tried to wake her up, the Dr. had to pull the breathing tubes out but Kayla had to be fully awake to complete the task. It took roughly 45 min to get her awake enough to get the tubes out. The Dr. almost called it quits and put her back under sedation, which meant we would have to go through this all over again. As the Dr. was walking out of the room we got Kayla awake enough for another try. This time she was able to keep her eyes open long enough and answer questions by nodding that the Dr. felt she was awake enough to breathe on her own. By this time the Dr. had received the results from the CAT scan which showed everything being good. They also completed a lumber puncture (spinal tap) to check the spinal fluid for infections or anything abnormal. That test came back clear, nothing was found out of the ordinary. Physical therapy came in to visit with Kayla to see how her eyesight was clearing up and seeing if she was able to get up and walk. The PT nurse said her walking was a little off, kind of like a drunken sailor. The other PT nurse came in to work on her eyesight and hand coordination. Kayla was able to do most of what they wanted her to do. She was given a homework assignment so the next time they were to visit they could see the progress she was making. In the next few days she was able to do everything they asked of her. The maxillary surgeon showed up one day right before Kayla’s lunch showed up and set her bottom teeth. The procedure was quick, roughly 10 minutes. This involved several shots to the gums for numbing, and then the surgeon began to push her teeth back into position, once set he put a retaining metal strip on her teeth to hold them in place. Within 3 weeks or so Kayla will have to go in to get her teeth looked at again to see whether or not she will need a root canal or to pull the teeth and have fake ones put in. After an hour or so Kayla was going to try to eat when the call came in the Nephrologist that they were going to be doing a kidney biopsy and that Kayla couldn’t eat or drink anything for 24 hours. That day and night were rough because, 1 she was hungry, and 2 she was in a lot of pain with both her teeth and headache. The next day finally came and they were able to complete the kidney biopsy. The biopsy went well, but the tests would not come back for 5-7 days. That night she was admitted to the floor out of the ICU!! This was great; it meant she was getting better. Once on the floor, she was able to get up and go to the bathroom on her own and was only being monitored every 4 hours versus every 30 min through the night and day. Several Dr.’s came in to visit with Kayla and all of them have been very pleased with how she is doing. Everything is going well and we are really close to a discharge day. As long as her blood pressure stays down and the headaches are held at bay, we should be able to go home soon. We are going on day 6 of this unplanned trip. Kayla has now lived in the Hospital in Cheyenne longer than our new residence. This is not how we imagined our new adventure in Wyoming to start or how we would spend the beginning of the New Year, but looking at the positive side of things, we know the power of prayer works!! And that we are truly blessed by all of the wonderful people who have prayed for and supported us through this tough and trying time. We would love to thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts, We couldn’t have done it without you!! As one of our good friends said “this may seem like a slow progression to you guys, but from afar this is miraculous”!! I agree whole-heartedly! Seeing Kayla go from her Happy self to unconscious and trying to hold her down while seizing to tubes and needles everywhere lying there lifeless and nothing I could do but ask for prayer warriors to agree with us as we stood over her while a machine keep her alive. Now 6 days later we are looking at possible discharge papers for her to come home!!! All I can do is Praise GOD and give him all the Glory and Praise!! This is truly miraculous! Somehow somewhere God is going to use this story, or someone involved in this story for the Glory of his Kingdom!! Blessing to you all from Kayla, Mike, Shyla, Hudson, and Kolt
