Dad Passed Away: Help Mom & Son with Expenses

Who we are:

My name is Staci, and I’m fundraising to help my Mom, Sammi, and younger Brother, Nathan, who is sixteen.

What your support will do:

The funds will be used to pay for expenses like food, the mortgage, monthly bills, and car maintenance, post the passing of my Dad, Robert.

Why we find ourselves asking for help:

After collapsing in the kitchen, our Dad was admitted to the ICU at Norman Regional on March 5th, 2023. He was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and renal failure. Our Mom resigned from her job and stayed at the hospital with our Dad every day, sleeping in a chair at his side. When his health further declined, our Dad was transferred to the OU Medical Surgical ICU. We were hopeful with a bit of progress, made possible by the incredible care given by the many wonderful medical staff members. Special thank you to SICU RNs Lauren, Nel, and Kim for your empathy, compassion, and respect. Our Dad ultimately succumb to multi-organ failure, passing away less than a month later, March 29th, 2023. Everyone did what they could to keep him alive, but our Dad passed before he could get a liver. Just two days later, we received an approval letter for his liver transplant.

When you’re in the hospital watching a parent/loved one suffering and fighting to stay alive, you are solely focused on being present and praying for a positive result. The last thing you think about is all of the possible expenses that would follow the worst possible outcome. Our family is left with a great loss and tremendous grief. And we’re also now in a financial bind. Every day, a new challenge arises. Every day, an unexpected expense appears. We’re at the point where we need help from our community. As the single parent and sole provider who gave up her job to take care of our Dad, our Mom needs financial assistance to take care of herself and my Brother. Your donation would make this transition not only possible, but would also take an enormous weight off our family.

Known Pending Expenses post funeral/cremation:

Monthly mortgage is $1,004.

Monthly living expenses are about $1,200.

My Brother’s car wiring harness is estimated at $1,900.

His car gaskets needing replaced are estimated at $600.
