4/3: An update on dad and his care. Dad was downgraded from icu to the neuro stroke unit where he’s still dealing with issues from his stroke (he’s been very lethargic the last couple days and not himself.) we’re still waiting to see the new internal medicine doctor as neuro has signed off on him. Dad also is continually needing a paracentesis done more than once a week. This is all part of his liver failure, and his liver cancer that is continuing to grow. His lab values are all over the chart and the medical team is trying to fix that. We were able to get placement for Dad at Redlands community hospital in their transitional care unit for rehab. But with the last couple days him being so lethargic and not his new normal self he can’t not be transferred.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as mom still isn’t able to really work like she usually does. and please understand we’re not trying to ignore any messages or well wishes as mom and I have a great deal of roadblocks and challenges we’re facing. I also on behalf of my whole family want to thank everyone for the continued prayers and well wishes that have come to us. We greatly appreciate it and we tell dad all the time. So please continue your prayers as we have a long journey to navigate.
Hi everyone. On behalf of my Mom and Dad, I wanted to let everyone know what is going on with my Dad.
As some of you may know, my Dad has been really sick. A few weeks ago, he was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic liver cancer that has spread to his lungs. We were given a time frame of 6 months to 12 with the medication they wanted to start him on. He’s not a candidate for chemotherapy due to his advanced cirrhosis. We started him on Lenvima for the cancer, but after the second dose he had a medical emergency on early Wednesday morning. Dad had a series of seizures and was rushed to Loma linda because he was unresponsive. He was further intubated and sent to CT to discover that he had a minor bleed on the back right side of his head. Upon further evaluation it was discovered that he has a congenital defect known as an arteriovenous malformation (avm) which coincidentally gave way to an arteriovenous fissure in his brain. He was taken in for a cerebro angiogram on Saturday to assess, plan and treat what was needed to be treated at the time. The fissure was repaired with some glue but his AVM will need to be treated at a later date. We’re still trying to get him weaned off the vent and breathing on his own, but as of now it’s proving to be difficult. Mom and I will be faced with some tough decisions in the near future because dad was taken off the cancer medicine which means that he will have less than 6 months. Dads prognosis is very guarded. And it’s probable that he will not be making it out of the hospital.
As you can imagine, we have been busy being by my dads side. Please forgive us if we don’t have the ability to answer your texts and phone calls. It’s a hard road for us to navigate right now, but I promise your continued prayers are being told to him.
If you would like to visit, please check in with us prior.
If you would like to help, as alot of you have been asking how you can help (outside of your continued prayer) then using this gofundme will help out. We figured it would be easier for people to use as opposed to zelle or Venmo. We were told that his insurance is denying post acute care, and we were told that a lot of this will have to be covered by us.
Thank you everyone for your love and support through all of this. As we have been saying all along, prayers and well wishes are very much appreciated. We love you all! I will post an update as much as I am able to.
