Daejah Logan’s T.B.I. Miracle

Donation protected

On August 30, 2020 my daughter Daejah Logan was rushed to the hospital fighting for her life. She was unresponsive and barely breathing. The first responders were able to get her heart beating and she had to be placed on a ventilator. Because of the lack of oxygen going to her brain, she sustained a traumatic brain injury.

Every day after that has been very challenging for her. Daejah was in the Intensive care unit and we did not know what the next day would bring. Her eyes were
closed. She couldn’t move, speak, eat, or breath on her own. Basically, she was in a coma.

She could only be on the ventilator for so long without the risk of infection so after 14 days, she had to get a tracheostomy. For those who know Daejah, singing has been her passion since she was a little girl. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and singing became part of her every day routine. We were concerned the procedure would affect her vocal chords as we have faith her condition is only temporary and she WILL be able to sing again.

One day, she opened her eyes and we continued praying. Then she blinked her eyes! The change was subtle but we were grateful and oh so very hopeful! She is a child of God and by His grace she is alive.

Her vital signs were a concern. Her pulse and blood pressure were extremely high and she constantly had a fever. They had to hook her up to a special device to try to stabilize her body temperature.

Then new symptoms began called “posturing” and “ neurostorming”. She had uncontrollable movement throughout her whole body along with very painful “spasms”. Imagine yourself having Charlie horses all throughout the day and night. She was in excruciating pain.

My daughter, Daejah, spent about 6 weeks at the 1st hospital. We celebrated her 20th birthday there. She had planned a trip with her friends but instead she was laying in a hospital bed continuing to fight for her life. She started making some progress and it was beneficial for her to be moved to another facility for more specialized care.

After some set backs from the insurance company we were able to get her transferred to Regency hospital. This hospital did everything they could within their ability to help our daughter. There were definitely good hearted staff working there, but her necessary care still required more.

Fortunately and once again by God answering our prayers, she was able to get in into a well known top of the line brain injury rehab facility. That’s where she has been since November 12th. She regained somewhat “consciousness” and have made significant improvement. The opening on her trachea was allowed to close. The program includes speech therapy, physical and occupational therapy amongst other things. Her dad, her true hero, has been staying with her there 24 hours assisting with her care and emotional support. He went through the discomfort of taking the Covid test twice just to be able to be there with her.  He has been by her side since day one following the incident.

Daejah has made a lot of progress from where she started at because God is the ultimate healer and found favor in my baby. Daejah has however a long way to go. This is a long journey. This specialized program at the facility she’s in now will end soon. She can only stay at this facility for so long in her current state. She will be heading home soon but needs very expensive equipment and the insurance company only covers but so much. The insurance company doesn’t cover home health care at all. She still can’t walk or take care of herself. When she is fed, she eats very slowly and most times not enough so she still needs a feeding tube to make sure she’s getting adequate nutrition. She will need a special type of wheelchair and bed. The house has to be modified to meet her current needs. It’s a lot!

Even though our baby won’t be home for Christmas or New Years, we are just grateful she is ok.

I know 2020 has been a hard year for a lot of us, not only emotionally but financially. For those of you that can contribute or know of any organization(s) that can help, thank you, from the bottom of our heart. We are very hopeful! Prayers are also so very welcomed. The good news is WHEN there is significant improvement while recovering at home, she can always return to the brain injury rehab facility for the next step in the program.

Thank you in advance for your kindness. I pray 2021 will be a better year for all of us. Everyday we wake up in the morning it’s a blessing for sure. Hold your loved ones a little tighter and remind them that you love them every chance you get! ❤️❤️❤️
