Support my local surf school in Dakar, Senegal !

My name is Aly Diagne, I’m 28 and I live in Yoff, a traditional district on the Dakar coast, inhabited mainly by fishermen, facing the Atlantic Ocean.

I've always been drawn to the sea and dreamed of learning to surf, so I started out with broken wooden and polystyrene boards. I had the opportunity to became a surf instructor and I worked for seven years in a surf school.

Today I'm treasurer of the Senegalese surfing federation, and I've decided to set up my own 100% local project: Dakar Surf Atlantique, a surf school and sports club.

Thanks to the support of my students who believed in me from the start, Dakar Surf Atlantique is now a small beach school where dakar residents and tourists can learn or practice surfing and relax.

As of today, we've built the school using sustainable materials, we've installed water for showers and electricity, and we're a team of three. The business has got off to a good start, and this crowdfunding campaign will enable us to ultimate the work by:

-building toilets

-buying a fridge and kitchen equipment

-buying new surf equipment (wetsuits, boards, leash)

-creating a website and communications activities.

It's only with the completion of the work, the marketing activities and the opening of a small bar that we'll be able to attract and welcome more and more people to the school.

In fact, my dream is to create a place where people can meet and live in peace and, and thanks to surfing and surfing-related activities, I would like to:

-train more young instructors

-provide stable employment for my staff

-have the space and resources to develop activities with a social dimension.

The constant decline in the number of fish in the sea and pollution of the beaches, as well as high inflation and youth unemployment, are phenomena that are very much felt in our district (Yoff). That's why we'd like to use the space available on the beach to organise free sports activities for the woman & kids, beach clean-ups and évents to make people and institutions more aware of plastic and pollution of our coast, and get more and more boys and girls into this wonderful sport.
