Take a Stand: Fundraiser for Reproductive Rights!

Hi, my name is Dakota Colussi, I'm 14 years old, and I go to Nomad Middle School in San Francisco, in the Mission District. And I am focusing on supporting reproductive rights. Reproductive rights are important to me because they are a part of my future. It is an important healthcare right for people who can become pregnant – pregnancy can harshly affect one's socioeconomic well-being and overall health. I am fighting for a future for myself, and so many others like me that are told that our rights are invalid. Abortion is a personal decision, NOT a legal debate.
With the recent news that indicates that the Supreme Court intends to overturn Roe v. Wade, I want to harness my frustration into making a difference and supporting people who need reproductive healthcare especially in states whose local laws oppose abortions, I’m focusing specifically on Texas.
On September 1, 2021, Texas passed a law prohibiting nearly all abortions in the state by banning them after about six weeks before most people even know they are pregnant. Lawmakers have indicated that they hope to make abortion completely illegal if Roe v Wade is overturned.
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit the Texas Equal Access Fund. This organization provides financial and emotional support to anyone seeking abortion care in Texas, especially low-income people, any donation will help make an impact. Right now is the time to take a stand. Our reproductive rights are in the hands of lawmakers and judges whose decisions lack empathy and understanding respect of individual choice. These laws are abusive, brutal, and absolutely criminal. IF IT'S NOT YOUR BODY IT'S NOT YOUR CHOICE.
