Dalton's Long Term Recovery

Story:

First, I just want to thank you for your consideration and taking the time to read this.

My name is Dalton, on June 6th of this year I had extensive reconstructive surgery on my right foot and have been out of work since March due to what was a progressive birth deformity in my ankles. I lived my life with a base level of foot aches believing it was just a normal case of flat feet. That was until the beginning of this year, while working full time as a dietary aid in a nursing home, it developed into excruciating pains that left me bedridden for days at times. I decided to go to a specialist in December, and I was told I should have reconstructive surgery.

Since having to leave my job in March, I have tried both Unemployment Insurance and Disability. I landed directly into a chasm between them, in which I am disqualified from Unemployment due to it being a medical reason for leaving my full time job and not being able to work during recovery, and on the other hand Disability will have reviewed my case well past the time of my recovery, which will be 9 months to a year from now.

I was the sole income of my household with my partner, who is now working full time hours at entry wage, while also helping me with my basic needs, which is basically another job in itself. And even with all of her efforts we are scraping by financially with rent and utilities, and we haven't even considered how to service our car, which my partner depends on for her 30 minute daily commute to work and my doctor's appointments that are an hour away.

I usually have trouble asking for help, but it's been difficult having to watch my partner work so hard with so little time to rest. We deeply appreciate all the help you can offer us, as it will ease the long transition into a time when I can start seeking employment.

Again, thank you for your time and consideration.
