Damario Smith funeral expenses and headstone
Donation protected
Heaven has claimed another angel. Damario Smith was called home 5-21-2023 at just seven years old. The family is in need of help with funeral expenses. Due to being considered high risk by insurance companies the family was denied a life insurance policy. Damario and Damariae were born 1-21-2016 to Irene Roades and De'Angelo Smith. At one month old the babies were stricken by RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). The family was awoken by Damariae's crying, they discovered Damario had stopped breathing. The twins were rushed to the hospital and they were able to resuscitate him. Tragically, the oxygen deprivation caused catastrophic brain damage. Damario was unable to swallow properly and aspirated his formula causing pneumonia multiple times. A feeding tube was inserted and eventually a permanent feeding port surgically installed. As the twins grew, it was painfully clear how many limitations Damario would have to live with; lack of mobility and freedom of movement, inability to communicate normally, being chronically immuno-compromised and dependence on nurses and family for all his care. He endured countless hospitalizations and surgeries. Even though Damario struggled daily through his short life, he was a joyful little fighter. Just last week at his school, Ingels Elementary, he was given an award for Best Smile. Two weeks ago Damario caught RSV again which led to being hospitalized with pneumonia again. He improved and was released and then crashed and stopped breathing the night of May 21st, he was rushed to the hospital where they tried for over an hour to coax him back to life. Sadly, he was too tired to keep fighting and has gone on to his eternal peace. Any help you can give, no matter how small, will be received with gratitude.
