Fifteen year old, Demarkus Edison had his whole life ahead of him when he innocently walked outside his Phoenix residence on Friday. He was an ambitious child who pursued the things he loved. He had a passion for music and wrote songs regularly. He learned how to ride a dirt bike at the age of 3 and wanted to pursue a career in motocross. He enjoyed spending quality time with his father, Rico, who was teaching him how to work on cars. He enjoyed playing basketball in the park, singing at the top of his lungs, and spending time with loved ones.

Nothing in the world could have prepared our family for the tragic shooting that took my precious nephew's life that night. His murder is still under investigation and we are only left to try to make sense of such a senseless tragedy.

Demarkus touched every person he met with his infectious smile, personable demeanor, and love for life. He treated strangers like friends, and friends like family. His best friend and biggest fan was his mother. He was a loving son and big brother, a Beacon of light to those that knew him.

Demarkus leaves behind his mother, father and little sister, who are absolutely devastated by his untimely death. They are currently displaced, as it is far too traumatizing and painful to return to the scene of the crime.

We want to give Demarkus the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes. We are currently asking for donations to help cover the costs associated with his funeral arrangements. Donations of any size will go a long way to help ease our financial burden at this unimaginably difficult time.

We also ask for prayers as my sister and our family try to navigate the grief process.

Lastly, we want to be emphasize that this is an ON GOING investigation. If anyone has any information about the death of my nephew, Demarkus Edison, PLEASE call Silent Witness. You can remain anonymous. Any information helps! We have the funeral date set now, but are not sharing publicly, because we don’t want that information being shared with the wrong people.
